A new video on MaxQda’s MaxMaps tool is available on the YouTube channel.
MaxMaps lets you create mind maps representing different elements of your project (codes, documents, memos, coded segments) and relate them to each other.
What is MaxMaps?
It’s a mind-mapping tool, integrated into MaxQda, that helps you create interactive maps, linked to the elements of your project, and visualise and organise the links and connections between these components of your project.
What types of maps can you create with MaxMaps?
You can build maps of anything you want:
- the structure of your data corpus,
- your hypotheses and your theoretical framework,
- the links you found during the analysis,
- and anything else you like, and you can make as many maps as you like!
It doesn’t even have to be a map about your project. On the other hand, if it’s not directly related to your project – and the components of the project – it might be easier to use a simpler mind map application. But the good thing about MaxMaps is that everything is kept together in MaxQda, in your project.
Interactive maps
Like many Maxqda functions, the map is interactive, and therefore linked to the project and its components. This means that you can open components simply by clicking on them on the map. And also, that by hovering your mouse over an element, you can get information about that element.
An important point: when you change things on a map in MaxMaps (for example, if you rename or delete a code), this won’t change it in your project. The connection here is one-way: you can access the project from the map, but you can’t modify and edit the project from the map. So don’t be afraid to modify your map as much as you like, your project will remain intact!
